The Thangka painting is a very traditional form of painting that includes intricate details. It is an ancient type of Tibetan art, which has been preserved in the Himalayan region for two thousand years. This painting can be explored like a map through visual symbols and colours. Each detail is intricate and has a deep symbolic meaning, referring to parts of the Buddhist philosophy. Hence, Thangka painting is meant to combine fine art with spirituality, to create a captivating art piece filled with Buddhist philosophical meaning.
Learning art, especially Thangka requires having interest in knowing Buddhist philosophy and also lots of patience and dedication. Hence, we offer Thangka workshop in Changunarayan , Bhaktapur for those who wants to learn Thangka painting. It could be either a very basic exploration of Thangka making process as a day tour or it could be multiple days of workshop for serious learner.
3 Hours Before Flight Time
Understand the meaning of each Thangka paintings and its values that holds into Buddhist philosophy and principle.
We’ll take 2 hours drive taking a private car from Kathmandu to Changunarayan. It is roughly 20km drive from Kathmandu city. After reaching there, we will go to one of the oldest Thangka school to see and learn the making of Thangka. This Thangka Workshop will be around 4 hours for a one day workshop. For serious learner or artist who wants to learn Thangka art properly can take multiple days workshop to sharpen their art and learn in depth about Thangka art and it’s principle.
After the workshop, we will explore UNESCO World Heritage listed Changunarayan temple and drive back to Kathmandu in the evening.
