Tour Details

Langtang valley is also known as a valley of glaciers. You don’t need to book any flight for this trek, as it is close from Kathmandu. Just 7 – 8 hours of drive will take you to Langtang National park. Langtang is towards the north of the Kathmandu Valley and just south of the Tibetan border. It is sandwiched between the main Himalayan range to the north and a slightly lower range of snowy peaks to the south. While many trekkers recognize the names such as Everest Trek and Annapurna trek, few recognize the name Langtang valley trek. This trek is a delightful trek between the Tamang Heritage Cultures trek, spectacular landscape with lush pine, small bamboo and rhododendron forests, as well as the warm spirit and hospitality of the Tamang Indigenous people. You will get to have an immersive firsthand travel experience with Tibetan Buddhist influenced Tamang villages and their daily lifestyle. A visit to the Langtang Valley offers an opportunity to explore villages, climb small peaks and visit glaciers at a comfortably low elevation. The spectacular view of Langtang Lirung (7,234m / 23,734ft) can be seen closer from Kyanjin Ri (4,985m / 16,355ft) when you reach at Kyanjin Gompa village. Travelers can visit the old Buddhist shrines and a Yak cheese factory while in Kyanjin Gompa. Kyanjin Ri and Tsergo Ri (5,033m / 16,512 ft) are the ultimate destination for the trekkers as a side trip. Langtang national park is also a habitat for rare wildlife including red panda, Himalayan thar, Himalayan black bear to name a few. The forests in this region have temperate and sub- alpine vegetation.

There are also additional treks available if trekker wants to do more than 10 days classic Langtang valley trek. Many trekkers in Langtang valley also equally enjoy customizable treks such as 12 days Langtang – Gosaikunda trek or 13 days Tamang Heritage Trail with Langtang valley trek. Villages like Gatlang, Gre, Thuman and Briddim holds their unique representation of traditional Buddhist Tibetan culture and heritage, which is a place not to be missed while in Langtang valley trek combining Tamang Heritage Trail.

The langtang village was utterly destroyed in April 2015 earthquake. Since then, the resilient locals have been rebuilding teahouses and lodges and are open for service now. The best way to help the locals is by bringing more tourists in this area.

Itinerary

Day 1 Arrive in Kathmandu, Nepal

Welcome to Nepal. Our team is happy and excited to greet you at the airport on your arrival. Our guide will pick you from airport on a private car and transfer you to the hotel you will be staying for couple of days in Kathmandu. The hotel is in Thamel, which is a hub for tourists and a happening place.

Day 2Exploration in Kathmandu/ Trek preparation

The second day will be a sightseeing day for you around the popular World Heritage listed sites in Kathmandu. We have several options to visit such as Pashupatinath temple, Swayambhu (monkey temple), Boudha stupa, Kathmandu Durbar Square to name a few. Guests can choose any 2 of the locations to visit as a day tour. We will also arrange your trekking permits for Langtang trek on this day. Likewise, the professional guide will give all the information on trekking gears and essentials along with short briefing of the trek. Explore Hub Nepal will organise a welcome dinner for our guests.

Day 3Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi

Our first day of Langtang trek starts with a Jeep ride from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi. After having an early breakfast, we will be taking a private 4WD Jeep. The journey starts from Southwest of Kathmandu crossing Thankot check post following the Prithivi highway until Galchhi. Then we follow Northeast road towards Trisuli highway for Syabrubesi.

Day 4Trek to Lama Hotel

After a breakfast, we will start our trail that crosses the Bhote Koshi river which flows from nearby Tibet. It then gradually climbs through sub-tropical forests of oak and rhododendron. Look out for langur monkeys in the trees. The trail through the forest up to Lama Hotel becomes steep, but the reward is a comfortable bed in a cosy lodge in the small settlement at Lama hotel.

Day 5Trek to Mundu village

The trail continues to climb through forest, with occasional glimpses of Langtang Lirung between the trees. At Ghora Tabela (3,000m / 9,842ft), the trail emerges from the forest and the mountains loom on either side of the valley. The trail continues to climb gently and the valley widens, passing a few temporary settlements used by herders who bring their livestock to graze in the high pastures during the summer. You will probably glimpse your first yak if you haven’t already. The next part of the trail is a somber reminder of the 2015 earthquake. Where Langtang village once was, with numerous lodges, there is now only a huge rock field. Spare a thought for the Nepalis and tourists who lost their lives here, and remember that your journey here will help support the survivors. Mundu is just half an hour’s walk further on. The old houses here are a reminder of what all the villages once looked like in this valley. Most of the lodges and homes in this area are now built in a teahouse style post earthquake.

Day 6Trek to Kyanjin Gumpa

From Mundu, the trail climbs gradually through yak pastures as the valley opens out further and the views become more extensive. After crossing several small streams and moraines, the trail reaches the settlement at Kyangjin Gumpa. Here there is a small monastery and a government-operated cheese factory, which is a good place to stock up for lunch and afternoon snacks. As you will arrive by lunchtime there is time to take it easy in the afternoon or explore the area. If you are feeling energetic, head up the Valley towards Langshisha Kharka to see some of the amazing views.

Day 7Exploration day at Kyanjin Ri

Today you can rest or explore the area. You can visit the monastery, have good coffee at the local bakery cafe or visit the cheese factory, and walk up the moraine to see the spectacular ice faces and tumbling glaciers of Langtang Lirung or ascend Kyangjin Ri directly behind the village, for a breath-taking panorama of the Langtang peaks.

Day 8Trek to Lama Hotel

We will return back from the same route you followed up the valley, following the Langtang Khola to Mundu village and on to Ghora Tabela. The descent will certainly be faster than the ascent. After lunch, continue the steep descent to Lama Hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 9Trek to Syabrubesi

Continue retracing your steps to Syabrubesi, enjoying the quiet forested hills and riverside views.

Day 10Drive back to Kathmandu

Our last day of trek, we will catch a private Jeep from Syabrubesi to Kathmandu following the same highway we took in the beginning of our trek. We celebrate a dinner together for the success of our trek.
