“Rice is life for Nepalese people” According to FAO Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations, about 66% of Nepalese people are involved in agriculture, contributing one by a third to the GDP.
If you ask any Nepali friends, what did you eat for breakfast or a meal in the evening? You will be heard “Daal Bhaat” (Rice and Lentils) this is what you will be hearing most of the time if you are in Nepal. There are many ethnic groups who celebrate the festivals making different delicious out of rice flour. “Chatamari, Yomari, Selroti, etc” are the major delicacies prepared as we celebrate food in different ways.
Similarly, farmers celebrate the “Dhaan Diwas” (paddy day) across the country with folk songs, dance, mud-splashing, and a traditional feast of dahi-chiura on the 15th of Ashar (mostly falls on the 29th of June) Nepal plants rice this day with joy and hope for life. The monsoon season occurs from June- August. We organize the rice plantation with locals in the village to experience the real life of farmers.
